“No 5 pages of legalese here”
Skipper Kory's is operating on the premise that we're renting to responsible adults, and so we want to treat you that way. All we're asking is that you respect our property and our neighbors. We've stayed at many a fishing camp ourselves over the years. Drawing on those experiences, we've specifically designed the Bowfin Bungalow with fishing in mind. From the dock to the fish-cleaning station to all the little things we've tried to address to make your stay as comfortable as possible, we feel we've done the best with what the property allows.
And now on to the short list:
Please Note: Skipper Kory's Of Black Lake's legal defense team requires us to mention that we assume no Liability or Responsibility for Accident, Injury, Loss or Damage to you or any of your property while you're staying with us!! Your payment to stay at Skipper Kory's shall also act as your agreement to this policy.
CAUTIONS:
Just to let you know while we're trying to be mindful of those who may not be as mobile as they once were: Please be aware that there are a few steps up into the camp at the front door, and a flight of stairs down to the dock, along with a steep, rocky hillside behind the camp. The gravel road can become muddy, and it is possible for vehicles to get stuck; we know. That's usually in early spring, but it's best to avoid muddy areas when possible.
There are insects. This means you should bring, and use, insect repellent. The North Country has seen a horrible uptick (no pun intended) in cases of Lyme disease. This can develop into a serious disease with life-long consequences. We cannot stress enough how important it is to check yourself (and others) thoroughly everyday for ticks. And it goes without saying how many hungry mosquitoes there can be, clouds of them at times. It may not smell the greatest, but anything with DEET in it is a must-pack supply.
There are snakes, including water snakes. Be alert for them. They like to lie on warm cement walkways such as the one leading to our dock. They bite.
There is wildlife, of both the cute kind (deer, ducks, squirrels, and chipmunks) and the stinky, scary kind (skunks, porcupines, raccoons, 'possums, and foxes). Whatever you leave out overnight will likely not be there in the morning. Racoons love containers of worms. They don't call them masked bandits for nothing. We don't recommend wandering around at night without a good flashlight, and scanning the entire vicinity. We do not provide flashlights.
And speaking of wildlife, please don't tempt the mice! Every so often they will find a way in. Try not to leave opened packages of food lying on counters inside the camp, but put it in the cupboards or the refrigerator where they can't get to it. Mice are capable of getting through the tiniest of openings, and where there's a will, there's a way.
The Black Lake area is not only quiet and peaceful, it's also—blessedly—devoid of just about any light pollution. Without street lights or signs, at night it is DARK. VERY, VERY DARK. DARKER THAN YOU CAN PROBABLY IMAGINE. On the other hand, this makes it absolutely phenomenal for star-gazing. Take the chairs and sit out on the dock for a great, unobstructed view of the glorious Milky Way. You won't believe how many stars you can see.

And now on to the short list:
- Sorry, but no pets allowed.
- No Smoking. Please, refrain from smoking inside the camp. As hard as it may be to believe, there are folks who don't care for the smell of Burma Cheroots.
- Check-in is any time after 2:00 pm on arrival date. Check-out is 10:00 am on departure date.
- Our cottage rental is based on a weekly basis, Saturday to Saturday. But if you can't get away for an entire week, or a Saturday-Saturday vacation doesn't fit into your schedule, please contact us; we're flexible. If we're not booked, we'd be thrilled to have you stay with us.
- Please do your best to tidy up before leaving. Washing all the dishes and leaving them in the drying rack is fine. We provide general cleaning supplies (and more rags than you can count!) and have a vacuum in the camp.
- Keys. Skipper Kory's is pretty much a do-it-yourself, turn-key camp. Above all, we respect people's privacy, so we're not underfoot. We have a combination push-button lock box on the front door with the keys inside. All you have to do is punch the 4 buttons, keep downward pressure on the top latch, and swing the door open towards you. And it's the same procedure to relock it. Shortly before your arrival, we'll send off the combination to you. In the event the keys walk away or you should lose them, we have a spare set squirreled away and we can tell you where they're hidden.
- All the fishing gear in the fish-cleaning station is the property of us, the owners. Please do not use it. (Zebco? Really!)
- As we stated, we're treating you like responsible adults. We're not hovering over your shoulder. If you have a problem with ANYTHING, or questions about the camp, we're only a phone call away. Home: 717-855-2584. Cell: 717-793-1505 (only if you can't reach us at home).
- Emergencies. DIAL 911! NOTE: 911 calls are sometimes bounced to Canada, so there's a direct line to Morristown Fire and Rescue posted on the refrigerator.
